What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is based on the principle that our organs & bodily systems are reflected on our feet, hands, face and ears. A reflexologist applies pressure and stimuli techniques to specific reflex points, encouraging energy flow through the body to help stimulate the body’s own natural healing processes to promote improved health and well-being.

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive, deep relaxation holistic therapy which helps restore balance, promotes healing and complements other therapies and modern medicine.

How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology is grounded in the principles of Chinese medicine, which include maintaining the healthy flow of chi, or vital energy, in the body to protect it from disease. Reflexologists use foot maps or charts to guide them in applying pressure to target areas. An experienced reflexologist may combine reflexology with other therapies to further help the body heal itself and regenerate new cells.

There are several theories on how the process works, which include:

  • Reflexology works with the central nervous system

  • Reflexology helps reduce pain by improving mood and reducing stress

  • Reflexology keeps the body's natural energy flowing

What are the Benefits of Reflexology?

Reflexology is a wonderful relaxing therapy that works on many levels, soothing, calming, balancing and revitalising and will benefit the whole body.

Reflexology is also an excellent tool for relieving stress as it reduces tension and stimulates relaxation. It can boost your mood, help improve sleep and eliminate toxins from the body. Many recipients of reflexology say that their sleep has greatly improved after receiving a reflexology treatment. Reflexology may also counter a range of physical, mental and emotional conditions, including:

  • Headaches

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Colds and flu

  • Back and shoulder pain

  • Infections

  • Infertility

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Digestive problems

  • Side effects of cancer treatment

  • Poor blood circulation

  • Low energy levels

  • Neurological diseases

What to expect from your Toe to Heel Reflexology session with Jane Ponsonby

Each comprehensive session lasts an hour and begins with the Vacuflex boots being placed on your feet, creating even pressure over each reflex simultaneously. During this time I discuss any current issues you may have, desired improvements  and take a brief medical history.   Once  the boots are removed, a map of colours appears, defining areas of congestion within your body. These colours last just a few seconds.

Cupping; using vacuum pads, helps to balance the meridian energy and afterwards we will move onto manual reflexology for roughly 50 minutes.  Finally applying the Kinesiology 12 meridian muscle balance makes sure your major meridian muscles are "firing" and your body is aligned.
